Updates!
Hi everybody!
It’s been a long time! Well, a bit more than a week really but it seems longer… I haven’t had lots of time lately: I was moved from the school feeding unit to the nutrition unit to give a hand, and there was a lot of work available. But it was a great experience, I visited a nutrition center, a refugee camp, and learned quite a lot about nutrition. For example, my student’s diet of plates of pasta with cheese on top, the only meat intake being a mcdonalds hamburger isn’t advisable…
Yes I know, I knew that before, but anyway.
I’ve been doing quite a lot these past few days, and have a few pictures to share with you. I couldn’t take any of the refugee camp, maybe next time; it’s just that it feels very out of place the first time you go there to just whip out a camera and start taking photos when all you see is people who, for some, have been living there for years, children running around bear foot and half naked, and when you witness the conditions they have to live in…
But I took pictures of something else we did. It’s called umuganda, and it takes place the last saturday of every month. It’s a morning dedicated to public utility work when everybody goes out and helps. The UN organised a UN umuganda during which people planted trees. It was more of a publicity campaign than real work, but it was also a nice occasion for pictures.
In my next post I’ll try and finally show pictures of my house and where I live!
